Christmas Star Glass

Do you know why this star is called "Sklovka"? It is made using smooth glass rods, which in pearl beading slang are simply called "glass". Thanks to them, the spatial star is solid and stable.

The production of glass bead ornaments is a traditional craft of the Czech Republic. The star was handmade in Poniklá in the Krkonoše Mountains. The glass beads are silver-plated on the inside with real silver.

Bead ornaments have been handmade in the Krkonoše Mountains for over a hundred years. Before a bead, blown from a glass tube, reaches the finished ornament, it must pass through at least five pairs of skilled hands. The bead craft has a deep tradition in Poniklá and has been a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2020.
